South African playwright, author, actress and TV presenter Fiona Coyne has sadly passed away at her home in Fishoek, Cape Town…
Fiona, best known for her timely one-liners and razor-sharp wit as the host of Weakest Link quiz show first graced our screens in 2003. She beat 500 hopefuls for the job and was flown to London to train and meet UK counterpart Anne Robinson.
Despite earlier reports from that she had died in a car accident, the police have come back to confirm that the allegations were untrue and that Coyne, had in fact died at her home in Fishhoek and could not immediately provide further details.
Kee-Leen Irvine, a family spokesman has said “At this stage it is a suspected suicide, but until the official investigation is complete we cannot say for sure that is the case. No foul play is suspected. Her family is in a deep state of shock.”
Coyne reportedly left two notes – one addressed to her mother and another to her domestic worker.
It is with great shock and sadness that we learn of her untimely death and offer our sympathies to her friends and family.
