In this week’s Lifestyle Feature of the Week we reveal that dreams do come true in a truly whimsical fairytale wedding for one Durban couple, check it out…
Once upon a time…. there was a beautiful young maiden with eyes as blue as the ocean, and hair as soft as a breeze. She had porcelain skin with a smile that could melt any heart, and a heart that could warm the coldest night. She dreamt every night, that one day she would meet her Prince Charming and marry him under the twinkling stars, in a forest filled with enchanting deer, surrounded by magic & fire, family & friends.
Her dress would be made from the finest thread that sparkled in the starlight, and she would dance the night away in the arms of her Prince, drinking champagne from pristine crystal glasses in a magical forest garden. Her dream always ended when she would would fly away together with her Prince to an exotic land, far, far away…..and they would live happily ever after.
And then one day, this dream came true. Fast forward to 3 June 2017 as we give you a sneak peek into Event Styling’s latest wedding showcase for newlyweds Welicia and Rick Canning. The couple enlisted the help of Durban’s renowned Marge B of Event Styling to oversee the creative task of bringing the dream wedding to life.
Mesmerizing and magical is what comes to mind when describing this stylish celebration which took place in the Canning family home, nestled in the heart of the Mt. Edgecombe Country Estate, north of Durban.
It was truly a magical, and breath-taking evening as their celebration of love culminated in what is probably the most unusual and dreamy wedding celebration Event Styling has designed and executed.
The evening was nothing short of spectacular and all eyes were fixated on the ravishing bride who wore a Casey-Jeanne creation with a trail that went on for days. This couture gown was completely custom designed, painstakingly hand embroidered with crystals on lace, that was especially imported from Paris for the occasion.
The bride’s spectacular, yellow diamond pear-shaped engagement ring was her only other jewelry item, apart from her golden cascade earrings which beautifully complimented her plunging gown. With a Hollywood smile, flowing locks and a whimsical bridal gown, bride Welicia was nothing short of celestial – an other-worldly being, the holy-grail of brides, as described by the Best Man in his speech.
“She was my Muse from the very first day we met” said Marge B of Event Styling. ” I always knew she was going to be a show-stopper of a Bride. And indeed she was.”
Guests were entertained throughout the evening, with specialized entertainers flown in from different parts of the country. The intimate and glamorous affair included a magician, a caricature artist, roving massage therapists, a live band, quirky games, a mixologist , and a designer coffee bar that dispensed specialized coffee in chocolate-covered sugar cones. Simply decadent!
“Toasting with Cristal champagne in William Yoeward crystal glasses to die for, this charming couple bedazzled us with their quirky charm and quick wit, gorgeous looks and warm spirits” says Marge.
A photobooth and live music as well as a DJ entertained the guests for hours and there was even a designer harvest table that included some of the couples’ favorite treats from wine gums to peanut brittle bars for everyone to enjoy.
Croquembouche and decadent pastries were also on display as well as a vanilla chiffon and fresh-cream cake, baked by the famous Old Town Italy in Umhlanga which feqtured as the official wedding cake. A Tiffany & Co. silver, cake server set which was delicately etched with their names, was gifted by the grooms’ parents and added a truly unique touch to this glamorous wedding, and no doubt would forever hold a place in the new Canning home for generations to come. The custom designed bridal unity candle set was perched on three, impressive turn-of-the-century, solid silver candle sticks, purchased on auction by the groom’s dad.
Later in the evening, guests made their way at leisure to an outdoor movie theatre in the gardens to a Charlie Chaplin movie house that was designed and installed exclusively for this special evening by the groom, with the help of his Bestman. Caramel coated pop-corn was dispensed in mini glass jars for those with a sweet tooth and a cigar bar was available to guests with a taste for tobacco.
“The highlight for me was the moment the sparklers were lit, creating a glorious, heavenly ambience, as the new Mr. and Mrs Canning danced for the very first time as husband and wife to a nostalgic Frank Sinatra oldie, Moon River. Without a doubt, these are the special moments every bride dreams of” said Marge.
