In this week’s Lifestyle Feature of the Week we showcase an exclusive interview with home-grown honey Lee-Ann Roberts, check it out…
Lee-Ann Roberts is a born and bred East Coast girl and proud of it. She calls Los Angeles home now and has made quite the name for herself in the world of fashion and music abroad.
The Socialite’s Chia Kougianos caught up with Lee-Ann to chat about life in the US, her venture into music and life behind the lens…
1. Can you tell us a bit about your life in Los Angeles?
I am currently in Los Angeles where I have been based for the past 2 years but I spent a great deal of time in NYC this year. Life is wonderful there I think the last 2 months I was there Sept and Oct 2016 was the 2 most successful months I have had this whole year. NYC is much like me super driven and always on the go. I guess in business and building your brand it’s the only way to be in order to get the best results. There’s an inherent energy in NYC that it’s famous for and it makes you want to get up and do a million things all day and stay up all night.
2. Tell us about your latest career change with your move into music?
I have always had a passion for music since a young age and have had lots of influences around me to show me the ropes, and now it’s just manifesting into something that will become my career which I’m super excited about. I have the best team and we super excited for the future.
3. Can you give us a sneak peek into your style of music?
I really LOVE Techno, Tech House, Minimal and Deep House and my music reflects this. The first track is being released on the 5th December 2016 and it is my very first attempt in production and vocals. Myself and my long- time friend Jake Childs teamed up in this dark homage to late 90’s house and UK garage. It has a child’s signature twist on synths laced throughout the track. The new UNI.FORM Recordings single entitled “Sensational Lies” begins with elements of early New York/Chicago house. Opening with a groovy 808, 90’s house inspired rhythm section and dusty layered synth chords towards a slow crescendo into a classic garage bass-line. Completing the track, I offer up some ominously sexy vocals to complete the overall “Uniform” sound unique to the label.
4. Has the track been produced locally or abroad?
The track is being released on an American Label as I produced it here in the US in Houston.
5. What has been your favourite shoot so far since living in the US?
This is always a tough one as every shoot is unique, inspiring and great in its own way. I have been fortunate enough to have worked with only the world’s best here in the States including Mark Seliger and Antoine Verglas to name but a few.
6. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love to surf with my Saffa friends on Venice beach and we live really close so it’s an absolute dream. I also enjoy movies, riding my bike along the Santa Monica and Venice boardwalk on a beautiful day and training and of course eating (Laughs). Even though you call it spare time I always find ways to incorporate work I guess that’s just the SA hustler in me.
7. What is the one life-changing fashion or beauty tip you can share with us?
Moisturize, eat organic, hydrate and take your Vitamins
8. Three of the best beauty products you simply have to have?
Sapphire face oil, coconut oil and my organic daily face cleaning regime made from organic fruit and veg.
9. Name 5 of your best fashion staples in your cupboard right now?
My All Saints leather jacket, my leather pants from Nasty Gal, my black patent leather boots with a see through heel, my ACNE jeans and my coat by NOMIA
10. What’s next for Lee-Ann Roberts?
2017 is going to be a super exciting year, a new twist on the Lee-Ann Roberts brand and definitely new adventures. You can keep a look out for my new direction into music and I will definitely keep updating my Soundcloud to get everyone more familiar with where I am headed and the latest tracks.
