We sent editor Chia Kougianos on a road trip as she attended the exclusive launch of Pinnacle Points first ever Invitational weekend. The estate is a mere four hours drive from Cape Town and just half an hours drive from George Airport making it in the middle of everything that the Garden Route has to offer.
The inaugural hosting of The Invitational took place earlier this month and acted as a launch to celebrate the completion of their fantastic new development. The weekend will go on to become an annual fixture on the calendar and saw a mix of local celebs and golfing enthusiasts join together in the love of the game.
The exclusive Pinnacle Point experience was limited to 120 players, with 60 members that played and the remaining participants included SA celebrities, newspaper journalists, radio presenters, television sports commentators, and special guests. It went on to become one of the largest events in the Southern Cape and the weekends festivities included a round of golf, spa treatments at the newly launched La Vita Spa as well as a Gala dinner in the Pinnacle Point Estate Clubhouse with prize giving and live entertainment.
It’s easy to see why it has gone on to become an award-winning golf course and it has also been selected as one of the Top Ten New Golf Courses of the World by Travel & Leisure. The course has a 72 par layout with 7 majestic holes that line the Indian Ocean rock cliffs offering 180 degree sea views.
Its anything but a traditional looking course as it’s set upon cliffs and offers sea views set amongst coastal dunes and indigenous bush of Mossel Bay. The unique course has views of the sea from just about every tee encouraging you to take your time and appreciate the impeccable surroundings in which you find yourself.
There are several bunkers often well-placed and some unfortunately so which make for a truly challenging and memorable game and will have you both intrigued and mesmerised throughout the round. Lucky for us there were a few locals on hand at the Clubhouse who kindly offered the inside scoop on each hole.
The Pinnacle Point Estate is sure to take your love of the game to the next level. The views are breath-taking and make for the best kind of distraction as you cant help but appreciate your surroundings. One thing I discovered on my debut onto the greens is that while golf is an enjoyable game its also extremely difficult. Its safe to say its almost impossible to come close to exceling at and you can just about forget mastering it. Not sure how one could possibly remain calm with the pressure of triple bogeys and sand traps but once you stop and take in the views at the Pinnacle Point Estate you realise that youre surrounded with such amazing beauty the setting of the course makes it all worthwhile.
