Vodacom Durban July 2016

This weekend saw thousands of punters and party-seekers braving the chilly July weather to enjoy the 120th installment of Africa’s Greatest Horse-racing Event .

This year marked The Socialite’s Chia Kougianos’ 11th consecutive Vodacom Durban July. With each new year she vows that this year will be her last and every year she returns to do it all over again. This year was no different as she braved the winter cold and joined Kathrin Kidger, Terence Pillay, Matt Miller and Christian van Rooyen in the Sibaya Casino marquee for a day at the races.

3 Things Chia Learnt at this Year’s Durban July:

1)      Never Be That Guy

It’s Race Day, not a sprint. Pace yourself – open bars and members of the public are a scary mix!

2)      Don’t Be Shady

And no I don’t mean lurking around Greyville in mysterious corners but wearing your sunglasses from 10am to 10pm is never okay.

When it comes to Race day fashion every year there are a few hits and misses. There was no denying that this year’s celeb fashion bravely explored plenty of ‘Leader of the Pack’ inspired ensembles gracing the track.

Jeannie D played host for the day alongside Queen B and they looked amazing in Gert Johan Coetzee gowns. Another notable race day ensemble was fashion designer Kathrin Kidger in her own custom design.  It was absolutely gorgeous and made everyone feel like they needed to leave and go to gym immediately. Even after a career in fashion and being mom to two children she could put anyone to shame with legs for days.

New Couple Alert

Breaking news – we revealed exclusively to the MacGUnleashed Show that there is a new couple alert in town with the likes of Khloe Kardashian and Trey Songz.

Personally we don’t trust anyone that uses a Z in their name but it looks like the Kardashian sister is smitten with her muso soon-to-be boyfriend. We expect the loved up pair to make it official very soon. They spent the weekend together and were seen making out at a night club The Cromwell in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

Khloe spent the night watching him from a VIP booth next to the stage as Trey is their resident artist and that was then followed by a visit to Drai’s After Hours club.

The 32-year-old reality star recently slammed reports she was dating the Na Na singer after they were pictured together but it looks like she completely forgot about the cameras being there. Oops, too late…

Fresh New Sound for the Locnville Twins

It’s official – Locnville have released their 3rd studio album with ‘Taste the Weekend’ and we couldn’t be happier. The Socialite’s Chia caught up with Andrew to chat future projects and what we can look forward to seeing with upcoming collabs.

They collaborate with Sketchy Bongo on their single Cold Shoulder and it’s unlike any of their recent singles. Inspired by the sounds of future dancehall and the deep house scene of South Africa it’s the twins’ first album after having signed with Warner Music. They’ve even teamed up with Esjay Jones one of SA’s most successful exports repping the SA music scene over in the US so you can look forward to big things to come.
