This weekend saw DJ Black Coffee walk away with the BET award for Best International Act in the African category. The glitzy award ceremony took place on Saturday night in Los Angeles and saw a few local Mzanzi stars named with the likes of Cassper Nyovest, Emtee and AKA, who were also BET nominees.

South Africa united in support of Black Coffee’s win as streams of messages poured in congratulating the star ranging from J’ Something to AKA to DJ Zinhle.

Lady Gaga’s 20 Minute Conversation with the Dalai Lama

It was anything but a quiet weekend as this past Sunday also saw Lady Gaga take centre stage as she engaged in a 20 minute live streamed conversation with the Dalai Lama.

The pop princess sat down with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet to talk about the power of kindness, meditation and essentially how we can make the world a more compassionate place.

The meeting took place at the US Conference of Mayors in Indianapolis where Lady Gaga asked the Dalai Lama a number of questions chosen from social media. The entire chat streamed on Facebook Live for the world to see and their talk was titled The Global Significance of Building Compassionate Cities: Kindness Makes it Happen

The Dalai Lama said: “I’m one 81-year-old person with quite a lot of experiences. My experiences much bigger than your experiences,” while Gaga, 30, made him laugh by quipping: “You didn’t know this, but I’m much older than you.” Gaga also spoke about the need to combat evil in the world with kindness and by educating and helping young people.

Drake’s Surprise Visit to SA

As can be expected Drake secretly jetted into SA and all hell broke loose as the rapper was quickly spotted. It’s safe to say South African Drake fans nearly had a heart attack when news broke that the US rapper was in the country and was first spotted after landing in Lanseria airport.

Two local fans of Drake just happened to be at Lanseria International Airport on Friday when he touched down and after sharing a video clip on Twitter news quickly spread.

Fans are now vowing to track him down and updated their findings when the muso decided to attempt a quiet dinner in Jozi on Sunday night. If you see him next do tag us on social media @thesocialitesa and post through any pics and videos as you could be featured next.
