Renowned actors Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will be visiting South Africa soon to shoot the film adaptation Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, find out more on the blog today…

After many years, and several failed attempts, a film version of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is finally getting underway.

Stephen King has confirmed that Hollywood favourites Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will star in the film as production nears start. The movie is based on the book of the same title by Stephen King, and is set to be released in early January 2017. For those familiar with the book, Idris will play the character of the gunslinger in the book while Matthew will be playing the role of the villainous man in black.

Stephen King made an appearance on Twitter to show his enthusiasm which responded in a viral showdown as Idris and Matthew joined in on the action:

The author and the movie’s director and co-writer Nikolaj Arcel chatted to Entertainment Weekly about their plans to transform the sourcery tale into a Hollywood adaption on the big screen.

“The thing is, it’s been a looong trip from the books to the film,” King says, putting it right in context: “When you think about it, I started these stories as a senior in college, sitting in a little sh-tty cabin beside the river in Maine, and finally this thing is actually in pre-production now.” He laughs. “I’m delighted, and I’m a little bit surprised.”
