The start of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central (DStv 122) last week pulled 352 855 DStv viewers. Stewart turned the four-times-a-week show into a unique cocktail of politics, journalism and entertainment that skewered politicians, the world in general and sensationalist cable news coverage in particular

The 2.6 rating makes it the highest viewership ever achieved by Comedy Central in South Africa since the channel launched in Africa on DSTV in December 2011. Viacom says that on the multi-platform front Trevor Noah’s full episode premiere has been streamed over 750 000 times and that clips from the episode have recorded nearly 4million viewers across platforms.

It was originally reported that an SA actress was caught with R4.6 million worth of drugs. Officials from the South African Revenue Services claimed the woman was a television star who had acted in soapies including Scandal, Rythym City and Isidingo, but police say this is not the case.

There’s no such thing as bad publicity as local actress Stevie French got more than her 15 minutes of fame when she was caught in the middle of the rumoured drug bust. The news sent Twitter into a frenzy, with the hashtag #GuessTheActress trending.

So where does Stevie French fit into all this? Well, because Stevie had mentioned on social media that she was travelling to Dubai, Tweeps connected the dots.

The dots turned out to be a major stretch as the SA Police Service tweeted that the person arrested was not a popular actress – major anti-climax.

Turns out the woman was not in fact a South African celebrity but the woman was found with 15 packets of drugs covered in foil, weighing nearly 16 kilograms. She is now awaiting trial.

Next to visit is celebrated American actor Kevin Hart, on his first ever tour to South Africa. Billed as the biggest comedy tour of all time, the Kevin Hart What Now? Comedy Tour made its debut in Texas in April this year with sell-out performances throughout the USA, Canada, UK and Australia. The South African leg of the tour kicks off in March 2016 with shows in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
