Situated in the heart of Durban is the newly opened Waterfront Hotel and Spa, the great local hotspot is nothing short of contemporary chic. The Socialite spent a night there to explore the new offering…
Shady streets, late night deals and the threat of drive-by’s used to mark the frightening underworld of Durban’s Point Road area. We’ve all thought twice about exploring the area that has the stigma of danger attached to it but fast forward to 2015 and times have changed dramatically. The city has seen so many improvements and now has great plans to change the perception of the waterfront and its surrounding attractions. First came the introduction of uShaka Marine World and now the area is home to trendy sidewalk cafes and restaurants and upmarket apartment blocks with picturesque views of the coast line. It has seen so much change and now the area welcomes its latest addition with the revamp and renovation of the Docklands hotel which has since opened its doors as The Waterfront Hotel and Spa.
It’s vibrant, social and ever so chic. A place of majestic properties and never ending harbor views, it is an ideal location for a quick getaway or working holiday as we sent editor Chia Kougianos for a night’s stay.
The Waterfront is a delightful hotel offering a contemporary take on old world charm, a retro urban restaurant and bar and spa located in the heart of the city. It has been revamped and renovated to incorporate a gorgeous merging of old world charm and modern contemporary style, from the high ceilings and trendy lighting to the reception area which fuses bold textures and unusual designs that evoke a stylish welcome area. Here you can look forward to a state of the art gym, an afternoon of pampering at the Aqua Spa or late night drinks and dinner at the trendy Wodka Restaurant.
The modern urban accommodation is uniquely furnished and decorated and has sweeping views of both the Durban harbor itself and the point waterfront. The friendly staff and their guest support services were truly worth a mention.
For those who appreciate the marvels of industry at work, the deluxe rooms each have their own balcony which overlooks and the hustle and bustle of the Durban harbor.
The hotel and spa offers guests a great mix of business and leisure features and the courtyard is ideal for those looking to reply to mails and get in a few meetings before lunch. For the ladies there is the Aqua Spa conveniently located on the first floor and offers guests everything from treatments and pampering to salon quality products and therapies. The spa is open to hotel guests as well as to the public and opens until 6pm.
The Wodka restaurant, located inside the hotel, is also open to members of the public and offers a chic and welcoming environment with a delightful new menu offering.
With easy access in and out of the point, the hotel’s location is perfect as it’s an easy two minute drive down to uShaka and the nearby restaurants and just ten minutes away from the city centre itself.During my whirlwind little trip over the two days I was able to write new content, secure a few meetings and take in the city’s beautiful night landscape while enjoying a glass of red wine on the balcony. I would definitely recommend checking out The Waterfront and look out for Wodka’s new menu offering which will be launching soon.
