Who will ‘Open The City’ at Vodacom In The City

Vodacom has given five local bands the chance to share the spotlight on the Vodacom In The City stage – and the public the power to choose who that band will be. Check it out…

Launching its “Open the City” competition, Vodacom called on local rock and indie bands across South Africa to enter for their chance to be the opening – and only – local act to perform at Vodacom In The City on 4 October 2013, playing ahead of the all-international line-up of The Hives, Skunk Anansie, alt-J and Boys Noize.

After a tough judging process by a panel made up of Gary Cool (GaryCool.com & Rolling Stone), Catherine Grenfell (5FM), Stephan Potgieter (MK) and Shane Durrant (Desmond & The Tutus), the five finalist bands were announced: aKing, Al Bairre, Beatenberg, Monark and The Aztec Sapphire.

It will now be up to the fans to decide which local band they want to Open the City. To give the bands a fair and fighting chance at this once-in-a-music-career opportunity, Vodacom has worked with each of the finalists to film and produce a promotional video as the competition heats up for South Africa’s most-voted band.

Public voting has opened and fans across the country are already SMSing their votes.

To vote, check out each band’s video at www.vodacom.co.za/vitc2013 and SMS the keyword of your favourite band to 33459.
