It’s going to be an action-packed, adventure-filled and adrenalin-induced month.
‘Man-Size Month’ titles include Iron Man 3, Fast & Furious 6 and The Hangover Part III, to mention just three. In order to enter the competition that could find you and three of your closest mates on an unforgettable trip of a lifetime to Vegas, courtesy of Ster-Kinekor and Virgin Atlantic and worth R250 000, you need to be in possession of a SK Club loyalty card.
All you need to do is watch at least three of the six Man-Size titles and swipe your card at each visit to the movies. For each movie you watch, you will earn 200 SK Club points. Once you have accumulated 600 points, you are automatically entered into the competition – and, the more ‘Man-Size Month’ movies you watch, the more entries you will accumulate to increase your chance of winning that trip of a lifetime to Las Vegas, the city that never sleeps.

Iron Man 3
‘Man-Size Month’ kicked off on 01 May with Iron Man 3, an action-packed superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Iron Man (aka Tony Stark), played by Robert Downey Jnr. Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce and Ben Kingsley round off the principle cast.
Marvel’s Iron Man 3 pits the brash, but brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds (Mandarin). When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey will, at every turn, test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?
Iron Man 3 has been converted to 3D, so anticipate an in-your-face and all-around-you-action experience that is a must-see.
Dead Man Down
The second title on the action-packed adrenalin scale is Dead Man Down starring Colin Farrell, Dominic Cooper and Noomi Rapace, and releasing nationally on Friday, 10 May.
Victor, a rising gangland player, has infiltrated the crime empire run by ruthless kingpin Alphonse, with the single purpose of making Alphonse pay for destroying his once happy life. As he meticulously orchestrates his vengeance from his high-rise home, Victor watches and is watched by Beatrice, a mysterious young woman who lives in the apartment across from his. On the surface a fragile woman-child, Beatrice seethes with a rage of her own. When she uncovers Victor’s dark secrets, she threatens to expose him unless he helps her carry out her own campaign of retribution. Each fixated on avenging their past, they devise a violent and cathartic plan that could change their worlds forever.
Bullet to the Head
Bullet to the Head, launching on Friday, 17 May, features a stellar cast of action actors including Sylvester ‘Sly’ Stallone, Christian Slater and Jason Momoa. After watching their respective partners die, a New Orleans hitman and a Washington DC detective form an alliance in order to bring down their common enemy.
Fast & Furious 6
On Friday, May 24, Fast & Furious 6 hits the screens at full throttle. Starring Vin Diesel , Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson, this film, the sixth in the Fast & Furious franchise, revolves around professional criminal Dominic Toretto and his crew. Following the Rio heist to topple a kingpin’s empire, their criminal records prevent them from returning to their home country, and our heroes have scattered across the globe.
Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries. The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to reassemble his elite team in London. The payment – full pardon for the team so they can return home and make their families whole again.
The Hangover Part III
Described as ‘the epic finale to The Hangover trilogy’, The Hangover Part III, is the third installment in this highly successful and hilarious franchise. Releasing at Ster-Kinekor cinemas nationally on Friday, 31 May, the film is directed by Todd Phillips and brings back stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis in a comedy that sees the Wolfpack on another adventure. This time round however, there is no wedding or a bachelor party. But, when the Wolfpack hits the road to free Alan from a mental institution, anything can happen.
After Earth
The sixth title on the ‘Man-Size Month’ line-up is After Earth, launching on 38 May (aka Friday, 07 June). This post-apocalyptic, sci-fi thriller unfolds on Planet Nova Prime, light years away from Earth, and stars real-life father and son Will and Jaden Smith as Cypher and Kitai Raige, with Will also acting as producer and co-writer.
Approximately 1 000 years after humans were forced to leave planet Earth due to cataclysmic events, teenager Kitai Raige and his father Cypher crash land on Earth’s surface. With Cypher critically injured in the crash, Kitai sets off on a dangerous journey to signal for help. Along the way, he faces uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet and a seemingly unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash.
