Skrillex Mothership Tour coming to SA

Samsung Galaxy and Electric presents the Skrillex Mothership SA Tour powered by 5FM and MK. The Socialite finds out more…

Skrillex, arguably the world’s sickest beat-dropper and no stranger to hectic tour schedules, will be visiting Jozi, Cape Town and Durban for his 2013 tour in South Africa.

Soon to be 25 years old, Sonny John Moore better known as Skrillex, is a reported workaholic – averaging nearly a gig a night – and unbelievably, over and above all the traveling, he still finds the time to produce his signature tracks with heavy bass lines and wild, stuttering beats.

Three times Grammy Award winner and MTV’s EDM Artist of the Year for 2012, Skrillex has recently released a surprisingly low-key EP called Leaving featuring tracks Leaving, Scary Bolly Dub and The Reason.  Leaving is a down tempo song that was recorded in a Mexico City hotel room, and its muted nature is unlike the usual Skrillex sound, but has been as widely appreciated amongst his fans.

Skrillex further teamed up with Damian Marley to make a groundbreaking collaboration Make It Bun Dem, blending reggae and dubstep in ways nobody thought was possible, and this is currently charting on 5FM. Other hits on rotation on 5FM are Breakin’ a Sweat with The Doors, which demonstrates considerable growth in terms of production style and diversity.

His first solo EP, My Name is Skrillex, was released for free download on his official MySpace page. The deity of dub-step releases much of his music for free which goes without saying then, that it has to be his supersonic, live performances that pay the bills and for good reason.

Skrillex will be gracing SA shores on the following dates presenting three raucous nights of wild revelry.

  • Friday 1 March at Thunder City in      Cape Town  – Doors open 6pm
  • Saturday 2March at H2O, Wild Waters in Johannesburg –      Doors open 12pm
