As the World Cup competition heats up, a host of international celebrities and football stars have descended upon South Africa in support of the FIFA World Cup 2010. The Socialite discovers who has visited us from the hills of Hollywood…
At the 2010 Fifa World Cup Kickoff Concert, held at Soweto’s Orlando stadium, entertainment stars performed for a crowd of 30 000 football supporters. Alicia Keys, Waka-Waka star Shakira and Somali-Canadian rapper Waving flag K’naan were some of the main attractions. Other performers were Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, Freshlyground, the Parlotones and BLK JKS.
From Hollywood to Bollywood and beyond, former football stars and celebs alike have since visited SA including the likes of Katy Perry, Shahrukh Khan, Naomi Campbell, Pamela Anderson and none other than CSI Miami’s Horatio Cane.
The popular Crime Lab Lieutenant, most recognized for the signature removal of his sunglass before delivering a profound one-liner was recently spotted in Umhlanga. David Caruso who plays Horatio was in town to show his support at the soccer and stopped in at the Moulin Rouge hair salon for a quick cut before continuing on to the game.
Days have passed yet celebrities continue to stream in, including the likes of Prince William and Prince Harry of England, Princess Takamado of Japan and Spanish Crown Prince Felipe of Asturias are representing royalty. Joe Jonas of The Jonas Brothers, fashion moghul Kimora Lee Simmons, Survivor Africa winner Ethan Zohn and girlfriend Jenna Morasca, US Soccer Legend Alexi Lallas, Sir David Richards have all been spotted.
American actor John Travolta made his way to Lanseria accompanied by his gorgeous wife Kelly Preston and little girl Ella Bleu.
Bill Clinton was also seen around town and gave a rousing speech in praise for Nelson Mandela and encouraged all South Africans to be proud to be the host country of the FIFA World Cup. “South Africa is being given a chance to set a standard that the rest of the world can learn from” he exclaimed to members of the media earlier this week.
And with the excitement of the finals around the corner and the sound of the vuvuzelas at every turn, celebs and football fans from across the globe unite in support of the game.
