Song of hope for the Sunflower Fund

Lauren Laing’s latest single “The Day I Sang for You” has been taken on as the official song for The Sunflower Fund. Inspired by a leukemia patient, it reveals a message of true courage and hope. The Socialite paid her a visit to find out more…

The bubbly blonde singer from Durban, once asked her twenty nine year old friend, Kale Bonhomne, whether there was anything she could do to make his stay in the oncology ward at Inkhosi Albert Luthuli Hospital more pleasant. Kale had leukemia, and all he requested was that Lauren come sing for the friends he had made in hospital.  Thus a song was born and “The Day I Sang for you” relays the intimate and life changing experience.

Kale Bonhomne lost his battle to leukemia two weeks after Lauren’s visit but Layla has the hope of survival as her brother Luke is her perfect bone marrow stem cell match.

“I wanted to create a sense of awareness about life threatening blood disorders and how easy it is to become a donor. I hope the song will move people to share a little and possibly save the life of someone suffering with leukemia” says Lauren.

The song is currently available on the ExactMusic Website for R16.99 and a percentage of the proceeds will go to The Sunflower Fund to help them build the South African Bone Marrow Registry.
