Love and Music at Botanic Gardens

Old Mutual Music at the Lake Concert presented fans to a Valentine’s Day performance by Just Jinjer and Farryl Purkiss on Sunday. Durban appeared in full force in support of the local acts as the Durban Botanic Gardens became abuzz with excitement.

Just Jinjer’s career over the years has culminated in a firm following both in the USA and South Africa. With more than 250 000 albums sold over a decade, the band has been given the opportunity to tour with U2, Counting Crows, Live, Goo Goo Dolls among others.

When asked why Just Jinger’s songs and music continues to gather a growing fan base, Art Matthews says, “It’s relevant.  We are saying things that people can listen to 20 years from now and it will still mean the same thing.”

South African singer and songwriter, Farryl Purkiss, opened for the band performing songs off his Fruitbats and Crows album.  It is the Durban artist’s most recent full-length album, which has since cemented his reputation as a leading light in the current bloom of SA singer-songwriters.
